Linear interpolation calculator

Given two points (x₁, y₁) and (x₂, y₂), find y at any x on the straight line through them.

Your answer

How we worked it out

Updated as you change the numbers.

  1. y = y₁ + (x − x₁) × (y₂ − y₁) ÷ (x₂ − x₁).

Method and assumptions

Linear interpolation assumes a straight line between the points, which is a good approximation over short ranges of smooth data. Extrapolating beyond the points is riskier.

Questions

What is y at x = 14 between (10, 50) and (20, 80)?

62.
