How we worked it out
Updated as you change the numbers.
- Factor = 6 ÷ 4 = 1.5; every amount is multiplied by it and rounded to the nearest 1/8.
Method and assumptions
Ingredients scale in proportion, but some things don’t: eggs round to whole eggs, pans change size, and baking times change with depth more than with quantity. Spices and salt are often best scaled a little less and adjusted to taste.
Questions
How do I scale a recipe for 4 to serve 6?
Multiply everything by 1.5: 2 cups of flour becomes 3 cups, 3/4 cup sugar becomes 1 1/8 cups.
